Home Time for George

I love John le Carre's George Smiley novels. George is head of Covert at the Circus - le Carre's version of the U.K.'s MI6 - and he's as far removed from James Bond as you could get. Alec Guinness played him in two 70's BBC television series and Gary Oldman played him in a film version. Both were great performances but I wanted to do a painting of him as he's physically described in the books: a small, overweight, permanently depressed look man.

I blocked out the scene in 3D after a very scrappy composition thumbnail. This helped with perspective and lighting. I most pleased with the carpet tiles! I designed them myself :)
